An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Awful Truth, the classic 1937 Leo McCarey (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic marriage/divorce comedy ("Lend an ear! Give a roar! Give a Cheer! The gayest lovers of the year are here"; "It's glorious comedy... Uproarious romance!"; "Danger! Wild woman on the loose!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a married couple who fight all the time and start to get a divorce, but they do all they can to stop each other in finding their new love) starring Irene Dunne (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Cary Grant, Ralph Bellamy (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Alexander D'Arcy, Cecil Cunningham, Joyce Compton, Robert Warwick, Mary Forbes, and Asta (as Mr. Smith the dog; billed as "Skippy" which was his real name, but he was better known as Asta from the Thin Man films) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1937 movie posters from this classic Leo McCarey movie are incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a single window card from this movie (and that was 19 years ago!) until we received this insert! Also note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 insert posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 insert posters (note that most post-1970 inserts were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those inserts). Condition: good. The poster was never machine folded, but it has some horizontal creases scattered in the middle, one at a slight diagonal. The entire poster has darkened, typical of Columbia posters of this period. It has a 4" tear in the bottom border with surface paper loss and a 3" tear and a 2" tear in the left border with a 2" and a 1" tear in the right border, and all have tape on the back as well as some other small tears around the edges. Some of those tears have tiny surface paper loss (see our image). There are pinholes and creases in the corners. The poster has the defects described above, but it can still be displayed and enjoyed, and certainly a restorer could paperback the poster, and after restoration to the above defects (most of which are around the edges of the poster), it will look great.
