Mastro Auctions (later Mastronet, Inc.) was the largest auctioneer of sports memorabilia, and sometimes other kinds. They issued phone book sized catalogs with reported sales of tens of millions of dollars per auction. They ran into great legal difficulty, and some of their principals ended up in jail, but their auction catalogs are fascinating reference works (although they likely include fakes and forgeries).
