An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Castle on the Hudson, the 1940 Anatole Litvak New York prison romantic crime thriller ("You'll see a new kind of love... When a guy who can't get away with murder meets a girls who does!"; "Every scene crackles with Garfield excitement!"; loosely based on the book by Lewis E. Lawes, who was the real-life warden of Sing Sing Prison; it had earlier been made in 1932 as "20,000 Years in Sing Sing", and that was the working title for this movie until it was changed at the last minute) starring John Garfield, Ann Sheridan, Pat O'Brien, Burgess Meredith, Henry O'Neill, Jerome Cowan, Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, John Litel, and Barbara Pepper NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1940 first release half-sheet! Note finally that this poster could conceivably be rolled in a tube, but because it is old and somewhat fragile, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster. Condition: very good. The poster was never machine folded, but someone hand-folded down the center at one time, and that caused some creases along that fold and there is a partial vertical crease at a slight diagonal that starts at the center of the top border and runs down through Garfield's shoulder to the bottom border. The poster has darkened somewhat, typical of Warner Bros. linen half-sheets of this period. It is not very fragile, a big plus. There was a 2" tear in the right border and a 1" tear in the upper left border. It had pinholes in the corners and in the center of the top and bottom borders, and when the pins were removed, it caused paper loss in the left blank corners and near the middle of the bottom blank border. Someone taped pieces of another poster to the back of the three areas of paper loss, and they also put tape on the back of pinholes and small tears in the borders. In spite of the above defects, which are primarily in the borders, this great ultra rare poster can certainly be displayed as it is, or one might choose to have restoration performed, either with or without backing the poster.
