An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 18 3/4" [36 x 48 cm]) (Learn More)

Orphee (released in the U.S. as "Orpheus"), the classic 1950 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy (re-telling the classic fable of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in modern day France, about how a man does not let even Death separate him from his beloved) starring Jean Marais (in the title role as Orphee/Orpheus), Francois Perier (as Heurtebise), Maria Casares (likely best remembered for her role as Death in this movie, where she played all her scenes with her eyes closed and with "eyes" painted over her eyelids!), Marie Dea (as Eurydice), Henri Cremieux, Greco, Roger Blin, and Edouard Dermithe

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Belgian poster from this Jean Cocteau classic movie, and it has a wonderful image that we have not seen on any other poster! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14 1/4" x 18 3/4" [36 x 48 cm].

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster also had two horizontal folds near the center, with one vertical fold and very minor wear on the folds. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
