An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Tovarich, the 1937 Anatole Litvak France/Russia royalty romantic comedy ("--tonight's our night!"; "Adapted from the play by Jacques Deval"; "English version by Robert E. Sherwood"; about a Russian couple who flee to France with a vast fortune during the Russian Revolution; but they choose to work as personal servants, because the money is to be used to restore the Russian monarchy!) starring Claudette Colbert, Charles Boyer, Basil Rathbone, Anita Louise, Melville Cooper, Isabel Jeans, Morris Carnovsky, and Victor Kilian. Note that this was a famous French play that was turned into a French movie in 1935, and then the rights to it were bought by Warner Bros. in 1937. This was a movie where Claudette Colbert fought continuously with the director over her solely being filmed from one profile, and she wanted the cinematographer fired, but the director refused, and Colbert added to her reputation for being difficult to work with and for being incredibly sensitive to only being filmed from one side! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that was 6 years ago! Condition: good to very good. The poster has a faint circular water stain in the bottom center and a much fainter one in the top center. The poster is lightly rippled in both areas. It has some creases scattered down the left and right, and it was lightly folded in half an extra time. Someone put a tiny piece of tape on the back of the bottom two crossfolds and on the back of a pinhole in the top center. This is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the faint water staining and rippling can be removed through chemical means, after which the poster will look fantastic (although I think some collectors would display this poster on their wall just as it is).
