An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Flying Down to Rio, the classic 1933 Thornton Freeland South America Rio De Janeiro Brazil airplane aviation pilot romantic love triangle musical ("Musical Romance Staged in the Clouds..."; "Too big for the world... So they staged it in the clouds... Too beautiful for words... So they set it to music!"; "Come, take a joy ride through the sky!"; "Romance that soars on the wings of song") starring Dolores Del Rio, Gene Raymond, Paul Roulien, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, and Blanche Friderici. Note that this was the first of the ten movies Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers made together, which explains why they were fourth and fifth billed, and not pictured on any poster art! Also note that this movie was made at a time when Hollywood had a "love affair" with South America in general, and Brazil (and Rio de Janeiro). Paul Roulien was a Brazilian singer who came to Hollywood in 1931, and he sang in several movies. In this movie, he was part of a romantic love triangle with Dolores Del Rio and Gene Raymond, and it was his best role. In 1934, he returned to Brazil and quit acting in 1938. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm]. Note that this great individual still (and a number of others) come from a recently discovered collection of mostly 1930s stills (but with some from the 1920s, and some from the 1940s and 1950s) that came from the estate of a longtime journalist who wrote about these movies and visited the sets of many movies and were given these stills at that time. They are all rare original stills from the first release of the movies, and some have cool candid images. This is an opportunity to acquire extremely rare stills, including some from movies you almost never see anything from! Also note that we are also currently auctioning a number of sets of stills (each from one movie) from this same collection, also in individual auctions. Condition: good to very good.
