An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) Gun Crazy, the 1950 Joseph H. Lewis bad girl crime film noir ("Thrill crazy... Kill crazy..."; "The Flaming Life of Laurie Starr [the lethal blonde]"; "...her violent loves! ...her vicious crimes! ...her wild escapes!"; "Notorious Laurie Starr! ...wanted in a dozen states... hunted by the F.B.I.!"; "She was more than any man could handle!"; "From The Saturday Evening Post Story by MacKinlay Kantor") starring Peggy Cummins, John Dall, Berry Kroeger, Russ Tamblyn, and Don Beddoe. Note that in 1949 Joseph H. Lewis had released this movie as "Deadly Is the Female". In 1950 he re-titled this movie "Gun Crazy" and gave it a full-scale release under that name. There are posters of all sizes and lobby cards for both titles (which is why we list them as two separate titles), and the "Gun Crazy" paper has never been called a "re-release" within the hobby, although technically it is. Important Added Info: Prior to paperbacking (see below for what this means), the poster had creases, smudges, a few small tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and wear along the foldlines. There were a few scuffs in the image and pinholes in the corners. The poster was very nicely backed, and the above defects are not at all noticeable from any distance away (you can see signs of the restoration from close-up). I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this great poster on their wall! What Is "Paperbacking"? It is a process similar to linenbacking that is sometimes used instead of linenbacking to preserve some sizes of movie posters. Just like in linenbacking, the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process, the foldlines almost completely vanish, and the posters are far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a paperbacked poster). When paperbacking is done correctly, it often adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! The main difference between paperbacking and linenbacking is that when a poster is paperbacked it is solely mounted onto Japanese rice paper (or, depending on the size of the poster, also a stiff backing board). Why paperback a poster instead of linenbacking it? Some collectors prefer paperbacking because the poster looks and feels more like an unbacked poster (this is why inserts, half-sheets, and window cards are commonly paperbacked onto a stiff board, because that more closely resembles the original poster), but there is no right or wrong to this, as it is just a matter of personal choice! Generally, collectors usually paperback posters that were originally on a heavier stock of paper, and linenbacked posters that were on a thinner paper stock, but there is no firm rule for this.
