An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 27" x 41 1/2" [69 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) I Want You for the Navy, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) recruitment poster ("Promotion for anyone enlisting, apply any recruiting station or postmaster") encouraging men to join the United States Navy (a sort of parody on the classic "I Want You" Uncle Sam poster with art by James Montgomery Flagg that had come out that same year, using reverse psychology to get the men to enlist in the Navy, by using great art of a pretty woman in a Navy sailor's uniform by Howard Chandler Christy). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Howard Chandler Christy Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had some small tears, creases, and tape stains around the edges, with some creases and scuffs scattered throughout the image, including some scattered down the length of the girl's jacket, with one going through her finger. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
