An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Foreign Correspondent, the 1940 Alfred Hitchcock ("Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the man who gave you 'Rebecca'") World War II (WWII) spy espionage newspaper journalism romantic suspense thriller ("The thrill spectacle of the year!"; "The dramatic conflicts... of today's boldest adventurers!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an American newspaper reporter stationed in London on the eve of World War II, and he tries to expose Nazi spies) starring Joel McCrea, Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders, Albert Bassermann (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; billed as "Albert Basserman"), Robert Benchley, Edmund Gwenn, Charles Wagenheim, and Eduardo Ciannelli. Note that this movie dealt with World War II and spies, and it was a clear statement from director Hitchcock that the war would soon involve every country, especially the United States, because there was no way to remain "neutral" when all those around you are at war. Finally, note that the movie credits the screenwriting to Charles Bennett and Joan Harrison, and notes that additional dialog was written by Robert Benchley and James Hilton (celebrated author of Lost Horizon and Goodbye, Mr. Chips), and Ben Hecht and Richard Maibaum apparently also contributed dialog, although they were uncredited! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four examples of this one-sheet, and the last one sold for $1,716! Condition: good. The poster was partially folded in half an extra time and has some creases and light rippling scattered throughout. It has water staining on the back of the top right corner that extends into the blue background. It has pinholes, creases and rippling around the edges with areas of paper loss scattered down parts of the left blank border where there are also many creases and light stains and there is brown staining in the top left corner in the blue background. There is a 8" vertical tear in the right of the top border in the middle of the staining. Many years ago someone performed amateur restoration to the left border with tape on the front and back and also put some clear tape on the back of the other tears. If I owned this rare and desirable poster I would have it professionally backed by a top professional and afterwards it would display well, but bear the above in mind (and look at our super-sized image) before bidding.
