A Linenbacked Belgian Advertising Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 30 1/4" [55 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) The Hengstenberg Sewing Machine Company was founded in the 1870s in Bielefeld, Germany by Carl Schmidt & Hugo Hengstenberg. Their machine were often copies of Singer sewing machines, but what set them apart was the intricate decorations added to the machines. Artist: A. Vossaert Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was never folded. It had light stains scattered in the top and bottom, entering into the border areas, but not the actual image. It also had a crease along the bottom of the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
