An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Tovarich, the 1937 Anatole Litvak France/Russia royalty romantic comedy ("--tonight's our night!"; "Adapted from the play by Jacques Deval"; "English version by Robert E. Sherwood"; about a Russian couple who flee to France with a vast fortune during the Russian Revolution; but they choose to work as personal servants, because the money is to be used to restore the Russian monarchy!) starring Claudette Colbert, Charles Boyer, Basil Rathbone, Anita Louise, Melville Cooper, Isabel Jeans, Morris Carnovsky, and Victor Kilian. Note that this was a famous French play that was turned into a French movie in 1935, and then the rights to it were bought by Warner Bros. in 1937. This was a movie where Claudette Colbert fought continuously with the director over her solely being filmed from one profile, and she wanted the cinematographer fired, but the director refused, and Colbert added to her reputation for being difficult to work with and for being incredibly sensitive to only being filmed from one side! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection! Also note that this still measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm]. Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has "TRR" running down the center. One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us! Condition: very good.
