Leonard silent Metro Pictures musical romantic love triangle European royalty political melodrama ("Story by Edmund Goulding"; a pretty wild story of a Queen of a mythical European country called "Jazzmania", which had originally been call "Jassmania", but its name was changed to the new spelling because everyone there loves to dance and party!; she is engaged to marry a Prince, but she refuses to marry him, and he starts a revolution, and she goes to the U.S. where she meets a handsome newspaper reporter, and she becomes the toast of New York thanks to her wonderful native dances!; she returns with the reporter to Jazzmania and turns the country into a democracy, so that she can abdicate the crown and marry the reporter!) starring Mae Murray, Rod La Rocque, Robert Frazer, Edmund Burns, and Jean Hersholt. Note that this was a "silent musical", which sounds like a contradiction, but actually is not. Given that all silent movie had full musical scores, it was possible to create a silent musical (but of course, the coming of sound made musicals the most popular genre in the early 1930s) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this card has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the card onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the card still looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the card no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with cards that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the cards it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. The card had some smudges, creases, faint stains, and small tears around the edges, with a 1" tear in the lower left border. It had a few smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card and performed excellent restoration to the above defects. You can see signs of the restoration, but the card displays really well! Learn More about condition grades
