An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in the Secret Service, the 1944 Phil Rosen Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers character") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Arthur Loft, George J. Lewis, Mantan Moreland, Gwen Kenyon, Benson Fong (as Tommy Chan), Marianne Quon, Gene Roth, and Sarah Edwards. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! The poster had a diamond-shaped area of paper loss at the middle crossfold (approximately 2" across), with tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the center of the poster. There was an additional area of paper loss near the left center of the poster, in the "ECR" of "SECRET", and in the background beneath it. There were some tears and small paper loss on the other foldlines and around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
