Auction History Result 8p452 DEAD RINGER 8 8x10 stills '64 creepy Bette Davis, Karl Malden, Peter Lawford Date Sold 11/19/2009 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" (8x10s) Movie Stills (Learn More) Dead Ringer (released outside the U.S. as "Who is Buried in My Grave?" and "Dead Image"), the 1964 Paul Henreid suspense thriller ("They were twins who once looked exactly alike until..."; "Mirror, mirror on the wall, now who's the fairest twin of all?"; "What Bette Davis does to Bette Davis and to Karl Malden and Peter Lawford in Dead Ringer is just what 'Baby Jane' people will adore!"; "Dead Ringer - for 'Baby Jane' people!"; about a sister who kills her twin in order to have the life she 'should have had') starring Bette Davis (billed as "Bette Davis & Bette Davis"!), Karl Malden, Peter Lawford, Philip Carey, Jean Hagen, George MacReady, and Estelle Winwood. Note that this movie reunited Paul Henreid and Bette Davis twenty years after they starred together in "Now, Voyager" (Henreid was the director of this movie, and Davis the star). Finally, note that there are many U.S. posters that have a stamp on the back that reads "The Dead Ringer", but we have never seen it referred to in that way except on that stamp, so we think it was simply a mistake. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a special set of 8 stills called "Story-in-Pictures". This was something that was done in the early 1960s. A set of 8 stills were created that were numbered, and they were designed to be placed in the lobbies of theaters in number order, and each of the stills had a long paragraph on the bottom that basically told you the entire story of the movie. I guess these sets were intended to serve as a kind of written preview of the movie with pictures, but apparently, they were not very popular, since I have only seen a few of them (perhaps the problem was that no one at the studio wanted to take the time to create them!). In any event, I think they are pretty cool, and they are definitely far more rare than the regular stills from the corresponding movies (these were made in ADDITION to the regular stills, not in place of them). SUPER IMPORTANT! THIS LOT CONTAINS 8 STILLS, BUT ONLY FOUR OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED! THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 8 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE, and NOT just the four pictured! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made no effort to find the best four stills in the lot, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured!
