Date Sold 7/12/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese "B3" or "Nakazuri" Movie Poster (14x20; measures 14" x 20" [36 x 51 cm]) (Learn More) The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (sometimes called "Treasure of Sierra Madre"), the classic 1948 John Huston (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) gold mining melodrama ("They sold their souls for ....The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"; "Warner Bros. hit a new high in high adventure... Bringing another great best-seller to the screen!"; "The nearer they get to their treasure the farther they get from the law!"; "Based on the Novel by B. Traven"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about three men who prospect for gold and the mixed blessings they find when they discover much gold) starring Humphrey Bogart (as Fred C. Dobbs), Walter Huston (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett, Barton MacLane, Alfonso Bedoya (as Gold Hat), John Huston (the director, as the man who gives Bogart money three times), and Robert 'Bobby' Blake. Note that the author of the book this classic movie was based on was written by a VERY unusual man known as "B. Traven", and you might want to research him, because it is amazing that no one has made a book about his life! Also note that Tim Holt's father appeared in a tiny cameo role in the "flop house" scene, as a fun favor to his son. Also note that there is an urban legend that Ann Sheridan plays the hooker who Humphrey Bogart sees after he gets cleaned up. Actually, that is not Ann Sheridan in the film, but she DID get made up for that scene, and there are still photos of her, so it is almost true! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Japanese poster, and that was 5 years ago! Note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German posters and programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English, and they are from the first release of that movie in that country. Also, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded, but it has some light "waves" in the center where it was once folded with other posters. It has generally survived in about as nice condition as one could hope!
