An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 27 1/4" x 41 1/4") (Learn More)

Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Combined Circus, a poster with a great image of growling leopard ("The Greatest Show on Earth"). Note that while this poster is clearly vintage, we do not know for sure when it is from. The 1934 date we give to it was written in pencil in the lower right corner of another example of this poster that we once saw, but of course, that might or might not be accurate (we have also seen circa 1941 attributed to it). If anyone knows more about this poster, please contact us and we will post it here. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years.

Important Added Info: Note that this circus poster measures 27 1/4" x 41 1/4".

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. There was a 2" crease at the bottom of the "M" of "BARNUM" and some creases in the left of the words "BARNUM" and "BAILEY". There were pinholes in the corners and creases, scuffs, and a few small tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, and now that has caused the poster to be slightly "bumped" in some places around the edges.
