An Original Vintage Exhibitor Magazine (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 14 pages) (Learn More) The Hollywood Reporter, the film entertainment news magazine featuring articles on current projects of the time and much news and information about stars & directors as well as some very cool ads! Amazingly, it was published for many decades, starting in September 3, 1930, and it was published six days a week, 52 weeks a year! Most issues were around 8 pages, with the Saturday issue usually being 4 pages, but sometimes studios would take out four, eight, twelve page or larger ads that would make individual issues much bigger. Also, once a year, this film industry standard did a special "anniversary issue" that was hundreds of pages long. Everybody who was anybody in the business was compelled to take out an ad, and your standing in the industry was judged by how big an ad you took out! There were two daily publications like this, the other being Variety, and they were highly competitive with each other. In 2007, this magazine surpassed The Hollywood Reporter in total distribution, making it the number one entertainment daily (initially, it solely focused on Hollywood, but over the years, it expanded to include all forms of entertainment). Note that because this was a daily paper, the vast majority of people threw it away, just as they did all daily newspapers. Finding any issues of this from decades ago is incredibly difficult, and finding a specific issue is like finding a needle in a haystack, because it seems that nobody saved them! Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that when Neville Brand had his first big starring role in "Riot in Cell Block 11", Allied Artists paid to have an ad on the entire back cover of the April 9, 1954 issue of Hollywood Reporter. The ad promoted Neville Brand as "the birth of a new star" and instead of having a large image of Brand, it had a small image of him with an illustration of two intertwined twisted nails, and the ad was designed by Saul Bass, who has a printed credit in the bottom left (see our image). Note that this is one of fifteen Saul Bass related items we were consigned from a very longtime Saul Bass collector. While Saul Bass did some incredibly memorable movie posters (including Vertigo and Anatomy of a Murder), much of his work only appeared in print ads, often in exhibitor magazines, and locating those ads (either in the magazine, or cut out of them) is incredibly difficult, because the magazines only went to theater owners, and virtually no one saved them! This is a great opportunity to obtain extremely rare Saul Bass items. Condition: very good. The issue has some minor wear around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
