OLD ACQUAINTANCE ('43) OLD ACQUAINTANCE ('43) Japanese B3 OR search current auctions Auction History Result 7z270 OLD ACQUAINTANCE Japanese 15x20 '40s different art of Bette Davis & Miriam Hopkins! Date Sold 6/11/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Undated (probably late 1940s; from the first release of this movie in Japan; see below) Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Two-Sided Japanese "B3" or "Nakazuri" Movie Poster (14x20; measures 14 1/2" x 20 1/4" [37 x 51 cm]) (Learn More) Old Acquaintance, the 1943 Vincent Sherman romantic love triangle best friends melodrama ("'I know what every woman expects from love ... And What She Accepts If She Is Wise!'"; "There are certain things one just doesn't do! But I Did"; "From the Stage Play by John Van Druten"; about a pair of female childhood best friends who help each other professionally, but after a long time, one of the husbands chases after the other woman, causing much tension in their relationship) starring Bette Davis, Miriam Hopkins, Gig Young, John Loder, Dolores Moran, Philip Reed, and Roscoe Karns. Note that this movie was re-made in 1981 as "Rich and Famous". Note that Gig Young had started making movies in 1940 under his given name of "Byron Barr", but he had little success and was mostly uncredited. In 1942, he played a character called "Gig Young" in "The Gay Sisters", and he changed his name to his character's name, and he started having much greater success, playing young romantic leads (and over the next couple of decades, he continued to play romantic parts, often lecherous older men!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German posters and programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English, and they are from the first release of that movie in that country. Also note that this Japanese B3 poster measures 14 1/2" x 20 1/4" [37 x 51 cm]. Condition: very good. The poster was folded slightly below the center and there is 1" of separation at the right end of that fold and some tiny tears at the left end of that fold. The poster has minor wear around the edges but is otherwise in nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
