eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2b0646 PLEASE STAND BY 28x44 special poster 1972 posted in NYC before premiere, John Lennon, rare! Date Sold 5/10/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded Special Movie Poster (measures 28" x 44" [71 x 112 cm]) (Learn More) Please Stand By, the 1972 Jack Milton & Joanna Milton crime comedy melodrama (about a New York City street singer and his band of activists who hijack broadcasting equipment that let them interrupt network television and broadcast messages promoting peace and ecological awareness; the leader is caught and arrested, but his band frees him from prison and resumes their activities!) starring David Peel ("as Fremont Zappata 'the Robin Hood of Guerilla Television'"), Wendy Apple, Alex Bennett, A.J. Weberman (most famous for his invention of "garbology", where he stole the trash of celebrities, including Bob Dylan!), and Roberts Blossom. Note that this obscure movie has a wonderful backstory that is not credited on the only rare poster we have ever auctioned! It was produced by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who also contributed some of the music to the soundtrack, which they composed specifically for this movie. Apparently they either did not want their name advertised so that the movie could stand on its own merits, or perhaps they were somewhat embarrassed by it! The only poster we have ever auctioned is a pretty homemade 28" x 44" poster (in two sections) that was used to advertise it at the Bleecker St. Cinema on November 17, 1972, before it premiered there (and we don't know that the movie ever had a theatrical release in 1972 anywhere else!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Geoffrey Leven Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! It is the poster referenced above, which was homemade to be displayed in New York City before the movie premiered. It was created in two sections with an area in the lower right of the top section designed to go over an incomplete area in the bottom section. The two sections were once glued together, but the glue long ago dried out. We don't know that any other examples of this poster exist, and it is surely one of the rarest Beatles-related posters there is! Condition: good to very good. The two sections were once glued together, but the glue has dried out, and they are now separate. Each section was folded by hand (see our images of the front and back of this most unusual poster).
