An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Sidney Kingsley's Detective Story, the 1951 William Wyler (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) New York City police crime melodrama ("From the great Broadway stage hit!"; "William Wyler's Production of Sidney Kingsley's 'Detective Story'"; "the author of 'Dead End'"; "Based on the play by Sidney Kingsley"; about an incredibly hectic and eventful day in the life of a police detective) starring Kirk Douglas, Eleanor Parker (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), William Bendix, Cathy O'Donnell, Lee Grant (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; note that it was right after this movie that Lee Grant was blacklisted!), George MacReady, Craig Hill, Bert Freed, Michael Strong, Gerald Mohr, and Joseph Wiseman NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good. The poster had scuffs across the top and bottom foldlines. There was a long vertical scuff running from the "W" of "WYLER" at top center down through the right of Douglas' head at center, and running through Douglas' face at bottom. There were some creases and small tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not do much to touch up the above defects, and they are still noticeable (I would think any talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
