the 1966 double-bill release ("These roles gave LIZ her reputation!") of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the classic 1958 Richard Brooks family relationship alcoholism suppressed homosexuality melodrama ("All the sultry drama of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize Play is now on the screen!"; "This is Maggie the Cat..."; "Maggie... the Cat"; nominated for the Best Director and Best Picture Academy Award; "Based on the Play 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' by Tennessee Williams"; in the original written version of the play, Big Daddy is a fairly minor character who is mostly offscreen, and there is a clear indication that Brick and Skipper had a homosexual relationship; when the play was performed on Broadway, it was rewritten to tone down those references; when the play became a movie, an entire end act was added, which drastically beefed up Big Daddy's part and changed the script quite a bit; the first two versions were written by Tennessee Williams, and the screenplay was written by director Richard Brooks; about the alcoholic adult son of a very wealthy man who is terminally ill, and how his family members gather around him waiting for him to die; interestingly, director Elia Kazan seemed like he should have directed this movie, but he wanted Williams to change the third act, and he refused; MGM hired George Cukor to direct the movie, but he refused BECAUSE the screenplay had been changed to eliminate the homosexual references, and screenwriter Richard Brooks stepped in to direct what many consider a masterpiece!) starring Elizabeth Taylor (in her nominated for Best Actress Academy Award role; "This is Maggie the Cat..."), Paul Newman (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Brick Pollitt), Burl Ives (as Big Daddy Pollitt), Jack Carson (as Gooper Pollitt), Judith Anderson (as Ida 'Big Momma' Pollitt), and Madeleine Sherwood (as Mae Flynn Pollitt) AND John O'Hara's BUtterfield Eight, the 1960 Daniel Mann prostitution melodrama ("The most desirable woman in town and the easiest to find... Just call... Butterfield 8"; "This is Liggett..who called Gloria whenever his wife was away!"; "This is Steve...who knew that no one man owned Gloria!"; "The glamor girl who wakes up ashamed!"; "A hot number: She's a hot number in her Academy Award winning performace!"; "John O'Hara's BUtterfield 8 ...the best seller that tells Gloria's story ...from first man to last"; "Screen Play by Charles Schnee and John Michael Hayes") starring Elizabeth Taylor (in her Best Actress Academy Award winning role, playing a prostitute), Laurence Harvey, Eddie Fisher, Dina Merrill, Mildred Dunnock, Betty Field, Jeffrey Lynn, Kay Medford, and Susan Oliver

Important Added Info: Note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald that was included with it, and it is pictured next to the pressbook below. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle and there are some light brown stains around the edges and along the fold.
