A Linenbacked French Travel Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 42 1/2" [79 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) La Basilique Romane De Vezelay (literally translates to "The Roman Basilica of Vezelay"), the 1920s French railroad train railway travel poster encouraging people to visit Vezelay via the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee Railway. The Vezelay Abbey is a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery in Vezelay, France. It was constructed between 1120 and 1150. The Benedictine abbey church, now the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine (Saint Mary Magdalene), with its complex program of imagery in sculpted capitals and portals, is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture. Note that this poster features Charles Hallo artwork of the lintel and nave of the church. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases, smudges, and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above.
