Date Sold 9/10/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 38" [72 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) The King & Queen of Gamblers, the 1907 Al Woods (billed as "A.H. Woods") Broadway western gambling melodrama stage play production (of the work written by Owen Davis; "A melodrama of real Western life"; "Jack Diamond and the sheriff of Monterey, hold the cabin again Black Pete's gang"). Note that research shows that this show played at the American Music Hall, which was located at 260 West 42nd Street in New York City, so it was indeed a "Broadway" theater (the theater was built in 1893 and torn down in 1932). Note that this poster features art of a nighttime shoot-out in the snow between "Jack Diamond" and the sheriff, fighting off Black Pete's gang (which includes a Native American Indian). The poster also has a king of clubs playing card at top left and a queen of diamonds playing card at top right, surely one of the earliest posters to feature playing cards! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor wear on the folds. It had a few pinholes and tears in the borders, more so in the center of the bottom blank border, with a diagonal scuff mark at top center, running through the right of the "EN" of "QUEEN". It had a small stain in the bottom left blank corner and small paper loss in the bottom right blank corner. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking (I would think it has surely survived in as good condition as one could have hoped, given that it is 112 years old!). The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
