An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Old Dark House, the 1932 James Whale ("who gave you 'Frankenstein'") Universal horror thriller ("Beware the night!"; "From the novel by J.B. Priestly") starring Boris Karloff (billed as "Karloff"), Melvyn Douglas, Gloria Stuart, Charles Laughton, Lilian Bond, Ernest Thesiger, Eva Moore, Raymond Massey, Brember Wills, and Elspeth Dudgeon (billed as "John Dudgeon"). Note that Elspeth Dudgeon (in her screen debut) was disguised as a man in the film and even billed under a male pseudonym.

Condition: good. The still was used in a newspaper and there are faint crop marks around Karloff's head and paint enhancements within the image (so it would show up better in the printed article). We can guess that it was used in a newspaper in 1936, because there is a date stamp on the back from that year. The newspaper clipping was glued to the back at one time, but it is no longer present, and that would surely have told us why he was back in the news. But this IS a 1932 original still that was reused in 1936 for a newspaper article.
