An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Great McGinty, the classic 1940 Preston Sturges political crooked politics screwball comedy starring Brian Donlevy (in the title role as Dan McGinty), Muriel Angelus, Akim Tamiroff, Allyn Joslyn, and William Demarest. Note that this movie was originally intended to be released in the U.S. with the title "Down Went McGinty", but at the last minute was changed to "The Great McGinty" (it was SO "last minute" that U.S. one-sheet posters were actually printed with "Down Went McGinty" on them, and giant snipes were glued over that area)!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this one-sheet, and the last one was 23 years ago, when it sold for $7,590! One of the three examples we auctioned did not have the large snipe over the top of the title, and the other two had the large snipe glued over the title. THIS example of the poster is really special, because it has the snipe loose, and it has not been glued, but it IS present. We took an image of it with the snipe laid over the top area as intended and another without the snipe there, and of course, it will be the choice of the new owner as to how they want to exhibit this poster!

Condition: good to very good. The poster has paper loss in the bottom of the right blank border, very slightly extending into the edge of the background. It has creases and small tears on parts of some folds, with small paper loss at the top crossfold, and small separation at the other two crossfolds. There are small areas of paper loss and a scratch below the "D" of "DOWN", with a crease running up into the bottom of the "D" (see our image). It has many light creases scattered throughout and some light smudges in the girl's face at center. The large snipe described above was paper clipped to the poster with clips in the top left and top right, but it was not attached to the poster in any way. We will send it to the new owner with those original paper clips, as the theater had it! The new owner could choose to leave the poster as it is, or restore it in any of several ways, and of course, it will be their decision how to deal with the very large snipe, which is incredibly rare to find not attached to the poster!
