An Original Vintage Studio Booklet (measures 4 1/4" x 4 3/4" [11 x 12 cm]) (Learn More)

MGM 1937-38 ("Greatest on the screen"; "Fall and winter edition"), the 1937 12-page booklet distributed to theater owners. Starting in the mid 1920s, MGM created studio yearbooks that were deluxe large publications sent to theater owners (to try to get them to book their upcoming movies), but they also (alone among the studios) created one of these small booklets each year that were distributed to people who went to the movies. Each measured around 3 3/4" x 4 1/4", and contained between 12 and 36 pages each. Somewhere around 1932 or 1933, it seems that MGM stopped making the large size campaign books, and only made the small booklets (or else they are just incredibly rare, because they never come up for sale). In 1940, MGM launched The Lion's Roar, a deluxe magazine which took the place of campaign books. But in the 1930s, mostly only these small booklets have survived, and they themselves are incredibly rare. This one is the one from 1937-38, and it contains 12 pages with information about their upcoming movies and stars, including Conquest (with Greta Garbo), Double Wedding, Idiots Delight, The Firefly, Big City, and The Bride Wore Red

Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two examples of this MGM studio booklet, and they sold for $182 and $187!

Condition: very good. There was pencil writing in the top and bottom borders of the cover that was almost completely erased, and there was some minor wear on the covers. Otherwise, the booklet is in pretty nice condition.
