An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 23 3/4" x 33 1/2" [60 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Es War Eine Rauschende Ballnacht (released in the U.S. as "It Was a Gay Ballnight"), the 1939 Carl Froelich German ballroom dancing romantic melodrama starring Zarah Leander, Aribert Wascher, Hans Stuwe, Marika Rokk, Leo Slezak, and Fritz Rasp. Note that star Zarah Leander was a famous Swedish singer and actress who signed a contract with UFA in 1936 that made her the highest paid German film star. In 1939, she sent her family back to Sweden and in 1942, when Josef Goebbels asked her to become a German citizen to prove her loyalty to the Nazis, she instead returned to Sweden. But her collaboration with the Nazis caused Swedish radio to stop playing her records, and it was not until 1949 that she resumed her career, and she remained controversial due to her Nazi connections for the rest of her life. Important Added Info: Note that this is an ultra rare "pre-War" Belgian poster that we have never auctioned before! Prior to World War II, Belgian posters were much larger than the ones from after the war, and they are extremely rare (because during WWII, there was a massive paper shortage in Belgium, and they took virtually every poster and map, and printed new posters on the backs of them. Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has MANY creases throughout and there are several tears at center in Leander's face at center. It has a tax stamp at left and creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges. After proper restoration the very rare poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
