A Linenbacked Israeli Special Poster (measures 28" x 39 1/2" [71 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Histadrut (General Organization of Workers in Israel) is Israel's national trade union center and represents the majority of Israel's trade unionists. Established in December 1920 in Mandatory Palestine, it soon became one of the most powerful institutions in the Yishuv (the body of Jewish residents in the region prior to the establishment of the state). Today, it has 800,000 members. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Israeli poster! It is from the very birth of Israel as a nation, and while the term "museum quality" is often lightly used for posters, we certainly feel this qualifies and that it belongs in a museum! The poster features images of Berl Katznelson (one of the intellectual founders of Labor Zionism), Aaron David Gordon (a Labor Zionist philosopher), Yosef Haim Brenner (a pioneer of modern Hebrew literature), Haim Arlosoroff, Joseph Trumpeldor, Moshe Beilinson, Dov Hoz and Eliyahu Golomb. It also features images of seven Jewish paratroopers who joined and fought with the British Army in WW2 and were killed in action. A knowledgeable collector helped us to translate the poster, which includes text by Berl Katznelson, poems by S. Shalom (titled "Raise the Flag") and Y. Adam (titled "I am an Oak"). Some of the translations include: "The Histadrut Wall. For Its 25th Anniversary - Hanukkah 1920 - Hanukkah 1945. Participants and Visitors in the Histadrut's Founding Conference". What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and a few tiny creases and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds. It had tiny tears and tiny paper loss in small parts of the borders. It had uneven darkening scattered throughout, but mostly in a rectangular area in the bottom. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
