An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Red Dragon, the 1945 Phil Rosen Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' Character") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Fortunio Bonanova, Benson Fong (as Tommy Chan), Willie Best, and Carol Hughes. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Condition: good. The poster has much separation at the upper crossfold, with some tears, creases and tiny areas of paper loss across the upper horizontal fold and upper vertical foldline (and much of that area is backed by several different pieces of tape). There is some slight discoloration in the woman's chest at upper right. There are creases along the center vertical foldline and there is some separation in the lower crossfold, and most of those defects are backed by tape as well. There are a few much more minor blank border tears and there are a few small tears in the right edge of the lower horizontal fold (backed by tape). Despite the defects, as can be seen in our image, the very rare poster is otherwise "all there" and while one could choose to display it as is, one could also choose to have the poster linenbacked and have some restoration performed to the above defects, and after which it would look really nice (but of course bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.)
