An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Dorothy Mackaill was an English actress from the 1920s to the 1980s. She was born in England in 1903, and her parents divorced when she was 11, and she lived with her father for a few years and then ran away from home to London, where her father paid for her living expenses, and she became a chorus girl, first in London, then in Paris! She moved to New York where she got a job with the Ziegfeld Follies and she was befriended by star Marion Davies. She moved to Hollywood when she was 18, and was a star by the time she was 21. The coming of sound helped end her career, although she had a few good talking roles in the early 1930s. By the mid 1930s, her career was pretty much over, and after one final appearance in 1937, she retired and spent her days taking care of her invalid mother, and she passed away in 1990 at the age of 87.
