Date Sold 8/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Beauty for Sale, the 1933 Richard Boleslawski New York City Manhattan beauty salon romantic melodrama ("From the novel 'Beauty' by Faith Baldwin"; about three girls who work in a beauty parlor, which was then a new phenomenon, and their various complicated love problems) starring Madge Evans, Alice Brady, Otto Kruger, Una Merkel, May Robson, and Phillips Holmes. Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two title lobby cards, a window card, a single still, and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this great scene lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There are tiny pairs of staple holes in each corner, with some tiny brown dot stains scattered in the bottom blank border. There is a faint scuff line in the background to the left of the woman's lower lip. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
