An Original 1939 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 22 1/4" x 31 1/2" [57 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) St. Martin's Lane (released in the U.S. in 1940 as "Sidewalks of London"), the 1938 Tim Whelan English London England street performer beggars acting romantic comedy ("They sing for pennies"; about "buskers", who were street performers in London, and an old performer meets a beautiful young pickpocket, and he convinces her to join his act, and then she catches the eye of a rich man, who does not know she previously robbed him, and he wants to take her away from her current life) starring Charles Laughton, Vivien Leigh, Rex Harrison, Larry Adler, Tyrone Guthrie, Maire O'Neill, Gus McNaughton, and Polly Ward NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Mauna Important Added Info: Note that we feel certain that this poster is from the first French release in 1939. We have never auctioned another French poster from this movie! Note that this is an extremely rare French poster from right before World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from the mid 1940s or earlier. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster has 1 1/2" of separation at the bottom of the vertical fold. It has some faint stains and tiny bits of paper loss in parts of the edges of the blank borders.
