An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Yvonne De Carlo (born Margaret Yvonne Middleton) was a Canadian actress from the 1940s to the 1990s. She was a romantic leading lady who starred in nearly one hundred movies in the 1940s and 1950s. You might be surprised to know that despite her great beauty (which was somewhat "exotic"), she was far from an overnight success! She had a number of uncredited roles starting in 1941, and made no impression on anybody! In 1943, she finally got a credited role in The Deerslayer (as a Native American Indian), and that still led to nothing. It was not for two more years before she was suddenly given the lead role in 1945's "Salome, Where She Danced", and that led to much better roles and then leading roles. Her exotic looks were not surprising, since her mother was of Italian-Scottish ancestry and her father was a half-Maori New Zealander! Oddly, she will forever be best remembered as Lily Munster in TV's "The Munsters"! Some of her other movies include: Salome Where She Danced, Song of Scheherazade, Slave Girl, The Ten Commandments (as Sephora), Brute Force, and This Gun for Hire. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 84. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) on the back by Yvonne De Carlo! She was personal friends with actress/model Margie Stewart, and she gave this still to Miss Stewart's son, Steven, and we think she gave this still in 1949, when Steven was quite young, and we suspect she was kidding with him calling him "Dear Boy Friend" and signing it "Love from Your Best Girl"! Steven's mother, Miss Stewart, is not well known today, but has a fascinating background. She was the only "Official Army Poster Girl" during World War II, and millions of her pinups were given to soldiers. In 1941, her pinup fame caused her to be signed by RKO and she made 20 movies during the war. After the war ended, she married Jerry Johnson, and they produced shows at the Hollywood Bowl, including ones with The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, and The Beach Boys! She was a close friend of Yvonne De Carlo's, and she gave this still to Miss Stewart's son. It was sold after she passed away, along with the rest of her estate.
