An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Le Silence est d'Or (released in the U.S. in 1948 as "Rene Clair's Man About Town"), the 1947 Rene Clair French/U.S. France romantic love triangle comedy ("Amazing New Film Idea!"; "A story of love in Paris... Enacted in French... Told in English by Maurice Chevalier"; "The Grand Prize winner of the 1947 Brussels world film festival") starring Maurice Chevalier ("'The Man About Town'...as M.C."), Francois Perier, Marcelle Derrien (billed as "introducing Marcelle Derrien"), Dany Robin, and Raymond Cordy. Note that master French director Rene Clair had gotten his start in silent movies in the late 1920s, and he felt that sound and modern inventions were not necessarily an improvement, and he felt tremendous nostalgia for the "good old days" (and also apparently disliked the "French new wave", which was just beginning) and he made this very sentimental movie set in the early 1900s, with Maurice Chevalier playing a silent filmmaker in love with a much younger woman who is herself in love with a young man. The movie was very oddly released in the United States, where, instead of subtitling the movie, the actors still spoke in French, but Chevalier narrated the movie over them, explaining what they were doing!

Condition: good to very good. There is black crayon writing on the back of much of the card, but it does not affect the front. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card!
