An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 18 1/4" x 26" [46 x 66 cm]) (Learn More) Our Most Shameful Waste!, the 1949 public service poster ("Remember - Only YOU can prevent forest fires!") advertising the U.S. Department of Agriculture's forest fire prevention campaign and featuring art of Smokey the Bear rescuing a baby deer. Here is some background on Smokey the Bear: In 1944 the U.S. Forest Service issued a poster featuring "Smokey Bear", and he wore jeans and a campaign hat (what we now call a ranger hat). His slogan was "Smokey says - Care will prevent 9 out of 10 forest fires!". Over the next decade, Smokey would change in appearance as the artist who drew him changed, and he would get the slogan "Remember! Only you can prevent forest fires", and eventually, he became "Smokey the Bear"! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. There are a few faint stains in the lower edge of the artwork and in the lower edge of the poster, and there is an enlarged tack hole at upper center (in the "A" in "Waste"). There are some tiny tears and tattering around the edges of the poster but otherwise it is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
