An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Trap, the 1946 Howard Bretherton Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character") starring Sidney Toler ("as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"; as Jimmy Chan), Tanis Chandler (a French actress who appeared in some Hollywood movies of the 1940s, but she returned to France and became the French dubbed voice for Hollywood actresses when those movies were shown in France!), Larry J. Blake, and Kirk Alyn (two years before his big role as Superman). Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, some creases and tiny tears on parts of some foldlines, and some pinholes and tiny tears around the edges of the poster. There was a Canadian censor stamp in the top center of the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer left alone the censor stamp (any restorer could touch up that area without re-backing the poster). Learn More about condition grades
