An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked English Three-Sheet (called a 6sh in England) Movie Poster (3sh; measures 40 1/4" x 80" [102 x 203 cm]) (Learn More) Son of Frankenstein, the classic 1939 Rowland V. Lee Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("Mysterious! Weird! Horrifying!"; "The greatest fear figures in screen history... all in Universal's New cavalcade of horror!"; the third Universal "Frankenstein" movie) starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as the original Dr. Frankenstein's son), Boris Karloff (in the title role as the Frankenstein monster), Bela Lugosi (as Ygor), Lionel Atwill, Josephine Hutchinson, and Donnie Dunagan (as Peter von Frankenstein) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this English three-sheet! It is actually a "six-sheet", because that is what they call three-sheets in England (and they called six-sheets "twelve-sheets", etc.), but we refer to it as an English three-sheet, because everyone understands that. Of course, ANY English posters from before World War II are unbelievably rare (and virtually NO English posters of any kind from Universal horror movies survive from before World War II)! The reason this poster survived is because a printer during World War II used the back of it to print another poster. AND ONLY THE BOTTOM TWO-THIRDS OF THE POSTER SURVIVED. The top two-thirds was not present, and it has been expertly recreated by a talented restorer. Obviously, one would prefer to find a complete example of this poster, but we don't believe that one exists, and it is quite likely that one will never exist, so if you want this great poster on your wall, you have to be accepting of the restoration of the top one-third. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. As noted above, the top one-third of this poster was not present. The bottom two-thirds had another poster printed on the back of it, but fortunately, it only slightly bled through to the front. A very talented restorer recreated the top one-third of the poster, going from a pressbook image, because, to the best of our knowledge, no complete example of this poster exists. They did a really nice job, and the poster will display really well on the new owner's wall, but bear in mind the restoration this poster has had before placing a bid on it.
