A Linenbacked Dutch Advertising Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 33 1/2" [55 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Kon Kweekery Moerheim (literally translates to "Kon Nursery Moerheim"), the circa 1930s (perhaps 1938) Dutch advertising poster promoting the Moerheim Nursery in Dedemsvaart, Netherlands. This poster features Pieter van der Hem artwork of a man and girl in a garden. The nursery was founded by Bonne Ruys near the family home, and he soon became well-known for his cross-pollination of existing plants into new varieties. Bonne's daughter Mien Ruys would follow in her father's footsteps and became a famous landscape and garden architect, and founded Tuinen Mien Ruys (Garden Mien Ruys). Note that a knowledgeable collector tells us that "Kon" is likely short for "Koninklijk" which translates to "Royal", a title often given to businesses that supplied products and/or services to the Royal house. Artist: Pieter van der Hem Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Dutch poster! Note that a previous owner of the poster write in pencil in the bottom right corner of the excess linen "c1915", meaning they were guessing that it was from the mid 1910s, but our research indicates this is almost surely from the 1930s, and likely from 1938. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking?
