An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37" x 55 1/4" [94 x 140 cm]) (Learn More)

Ab Mitternacht (literally translates to "From Midnight"), the 1938 Carl Hoffmann German romantic love triangle melodrama (based on the novel by Joseph Kessel; about a French nightclub dancer performing at the club "Wolga-Wolga", who thinks her husband is dead, but then he appears, and forbids her to dance!) starring Gina Falckenberg, Peter Voss, Marina Shubert (billed as "Marina von Schubert"), Rene Deltgen, Alexander Engel, Hubert von Meyerinck, Nikolai Kolin, Eva Tinschmann, and Katja Bennefeld. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. Note that this movie was made during the Nazi era, but it has no Nazi connections that we could discover. Surprisingly, we could find very little about it anywhere on the Internet. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Kurt Geffers
Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have never auctioned before. There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on many parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
