An Original 1953 (from the first release of this movie in Belgium) Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14" x 21 1/2" [36 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) Atom Man vs. Superman, the 1950 Spencer Gordon Bennet comic book superhero serial ("Trapped by deadly fumes"; "Bomb of Death!"; "The Man of Steel strikes!"; "Blasted in the Sky!"; "Kryptonite renders Superman helpless!"; "High-tension death-trap!"; "Based on the Superman adventure feature appearing in Superman and Action Comics magazines coast to coast. Adapted from the Superman radio program."; based on the famous DC Comics comic book character) starring Kirk Alyn (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Lyle Talbot (in the title role as Lex Luthor/The Atom Man), Noel Neill (who later repeated her role as Lois Lane in the TV series, after Phyllis Coates left the show), Tommy Bond (as Jimmy Olsen), Pierre Watkin (as Perry White), and Terry Frost. Note that this was the second Superman serial (the first was simply titled "Superman", and was released in 1948, with the same actors as in this serial). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Belgian poster! We have auctioned many thousands of Belgian posters (including a lot from before World War II, but until we were consigned this poster, we had never auctioned it, and we were also consigned a Belgian poster from "Superman", and that too we have never auctioned before (and it is in a separate auction). Also note that when the "Superman" serial was shown in Belgium, it was not shown like it was in the U.S., with one chapter at a time. They made two parts out of the 12 chapters and showed "part 1" at one time and "part 2" at another time. We don't know if they did the same with "Atom Man vs. Superman", because this poster does not have anything to indicate that, so we think it is more likely that they showed the serial all at once, and that this was the only Belgian poster. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster had two horizontal folds 1/2" apart in the top center of the image, with one horizontal fold across the middle, and a single vertical fold, and it has very minor wear on those folds. The poster has creases, faint stains, and some tiny areas of paper loss around the edges, and remnants of paper in the top blank area from where a snipe was attached, with a stain on the right side of the top blank area that reaches the edge of the image. There are diagonal creases in the bottom corners. In spite of the above defects (which are primarily in the borders), we would think most collectors could happily display this poster as it is, or certainly restoration could be performed.
