An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 21" x 31" [53 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Emblems of Liberty and Humanity, the circa 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) poster (with a tagline that translates to "The Red Cross, mother of all nations") featuring artwork of a Red Cross nurse along with the flag of the United States and another country. Note that this poster was part of a series launched by the American Red Cross during World War I, which featured the flags of countries allied with or associated with the United States in the war. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this World War I Red Cross poster! Not only that, but we were consigned five posters from this series, each measuring 21" x 31", with a different country featured, and they are being auctioned in five separate auctions. In the past, we have never auctioned any of these size posters, but we did previously auction two 11" x 16" posters from this series, featuring Brazil and Uruguay. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a few tiny tears in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was not correctly glued to the linen, and it is "lifting" in the center of the bottom border, which caused two small tears.
