An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Speedy, the 1928 Ted Wilde (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) silent romantic comedy (about a New Yorker who is unemployed, and his girlfriend's grandfather owns the last horse-drawn trolley in New York City, and some crooks are trying to get his contract, and if he doesn't complete his route once every 24 hours, he will lose his contract, and naturally, Lloyd takes over and has to get the trolley all over New York City in the nick of time, to save his girl's grandfather's business) starring Harold Lloyd (in the title role as Harold 'Speedy' Swift), Ann Christy, Bert Woodruff, Brooks Benedict, and Babe Ruth (as himself!). Note that the movie was shot on location in Manhattan, included scenes at Luna Park in Coney Island, Columbus Circle, Wall Street, and ends with a crash at the Brooklyn Bridge. Also note that there is a brief scene where Lloyd drives a taxi and his passenger is none other than the real Babe Ruth, who plays himself in the movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and only one in the last 12 years! Note that both of those other two examples had different tiny printing at the bottom (they match each other, but they are different from this example). However, the printing at the bottom of this one is correct for 1928 (we matched the litho number to our database), and we think it is just a case of this card being printed in more than one location, and that this is surely an original widow card from the movie's first release! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The card's borders were trimmed off, but in the case of the bottom border, it was trimmed just below the small writing at bottom. There were some pinholes, smudges and stains around the edges with some pinholes, stains and tears scattered through the card. Overall, the card was in "fair to good" condition prior to restoration. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
