Date Sold 2/6/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; most measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Winners of the West, the 1921 Edward Laemmle (billed as "Eddie Laemmle") silent cowboy western serial ("18 thrilling episodes of red blooded adventure in the early American days of Kit Carson and Capt. John C. Fremont"; "Universal's continued feature"; "Thrilling exploits in the lives of Kit Carson & John C. Fremont") starring Art Acord, Jim Corey, Burton Law, Myrtle Lind, Percy Pembroke, and Burt Wilson. Note that director Edward Laemmle has been largely forgotten by film history, but he has a VERY interesting biography! He is the nephew of Carl Laemmle, who persuaded him to leave his electrical engineering career in 1915 and join him at his recently opened Universal Studios. He started as an assistant director, mainly under John Ford. In 1917, he went to New Guinea to produce a movie about the natives there, and was shipwrecked, and spent two years among the Kia Kia cannibals! This adventure was re-created in the movie "Shipwrecked Among Cannibals", which became the first million dollar movie for Universal Studios. Edward Laemmle went on to direct roughly 50 movies, and had many famous assistants, including William Wyler. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper for this film is very scarce - we have only auctioned one lobby card for this movie in 2003, a glass slide, and a single chapter one-sheet (and that was in 1995)! Also note - it is possible that these scene cards are from different chapters of this serial (the two with the left and right edges trimmed are from Chapter 4), but we do not know for certain and if anyone knows more about them, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. Two of the cards (see our image and above) have been trimmed at left and right. The other cards have a few smudges and/or pinholes around the edges, but overall the group is in pretty nice condition and they have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
