Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 33 1/2") (Learn More)

Varmlanningarna (released in the U.S. as "The Varmlanders" and "The People of Varmland"), the 1932 Gustaf Edgren Swedish romantic melodrama (based on the Fredrik August Dahlgren play, apparently about the first settlers of Varmland, and there were several other movies based on this same play) starring Annalisa Ericson (billed as "Anna-Lisa Ericson"), Gosta Kjellertz, Georg Blomstedt, Ivan Hedqvist, and Hilda Borgstrom. Note that we (and almost surely YOU) had never heard of Varmland before seeing this poster, but it actually is a place with a rich history! It is a section of middle Sweden on the Norway border. The writer of the play this movie was based on was one of Varmland's most notable playwrights and songwriters of the mid to late 1800s, and this was one of his plays (but we were able to find out little about it). Note that Varmland is where Greta Garbo's movie "Gosta Berlings Saga" was set, and it also played an important part in World War II, because after the Nazis occupied Norway, the Varmlanders fortified their border with Norway, and were able to successfully keep the Nazis out! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: Nerman
Important Added Info: This Swedish poster measures 24 1/2" x 33 1/2" and is linenbacked. Also note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this Swedish movie!

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

The poster had one vertical fold and one horizontal fold. There were creases along the foldlines and pinholes and creases in the corners. The poster was well backed, and looks quite nice!
