An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) The Song of Songs, the 1933 Rouben Mamoulian romantic love triangle melodrama ("Thrill to the new Dietrich! - the woman of flame and desire!"; "From the story by Hermann Sudermann and the play by Edward Sheldon"; about a social climbing German peasant girl who falls in love with a sculptor and poses for a nude statue, but then she marries a rich baron because the sculptor won't commit; it is an unhappy marriage, and she leaves her husband and becomes a cabaret singer, sinking lower and lower before finally reuniting with her true love, the sculptor) starring Marlene Dietrich, Brian Aherne, Hardie Albright, Lionel Atwill, and Alison Skipworth. Note that actor Richard Bennett was originally cast in the role that eventually went to Lionel Atwill, and advertising was prepared crediting Bennett! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Condition: good. The card had three rough horizontal folds, all near the center of the card. One went through the man's forehead and hair, one went across the man's neck and upper lip, and one went below his tie and through Dietrich's face. There were many creases and scuffs along these three foldlines and some in the image between them. There were also some creases and tears in the borders. A talented restorer paperbacked the card, and performed restoration to the above defects. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
