An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Babes in Arms, the 1939 Busby Berkeley romantic juvenile let's-put-on-a-show musical ("The Big Musical Fun Show!"; "Based on the play by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart"; Mickey is the son of vaudevillians who want to put on a traveling show that will bring back vaudeville, but Mickey and Judy organize their own show, with "modern" songs, and with no money for staging, they put on an incredible show!) starring Mickey Rooney (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Judy Garland, Charles Winninger, Guy Kibbee, June Preisser, Grace Hayes, Betty Jaynes, Douglas McPhail, Rand Brooks, Leni Lynn, and Johnny Sheffield (billed as "John Sheffield"). This is one of the absolute best "let's put on a show" musicals of the 1930s or 1940s, which is not surprising, since it combines the talents of Rodgers & Hart, Busby Berkeley, and Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Al Hirschfeld Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are slightly noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had creases and small, fine surface paper loss across each of the horizontal foldlines. There were pinholes in the corners and paper loss in the right blank corners. There were creases, smudges, and some tiny tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not attempt to make the poster look "perfect", so you can see slight signs of the restoration along the foldlines, and more signs of the restoration in the blank borders (although, of course, those will not show when the poster is framed).
