An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (11x14; LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Gunnar Hedes Saga (released in the U.S. in 1924 as "The Blizzard"), the 1923 Mauritz Stiller Swedish silent music violin romantic winter snow storm natural disaster thriller ("From the novel by Dr. Selma Lagerlof"; a wild story of a young violin prodigy whose mother thinks he should never play, and he runs off the join the circus, where he falls in love with a pretty young violin player; he invests in buying a herd of reindeer, to bring south and sell, but during the blizzard of the title of the movie, he is involved in an accident which drives him insane; he is cured of his insanity when he hears the violin playing of his girlfriend, which causes his mother to relent, and welcome her son and future daughter-in-law into her home) starring Einar Hansen (in the title role as Gunnar Hedes), Mary Johnson, Pauline Brunius, Hugo Bjorne, and Thecla Ahlander. Note that Selma Lagerlof was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (in 1909). Of course, Mauritz Stiller is well known to film buffs as the Swedish director who discovered Greta Garbo in 1923 and then came to America with her, and then MGM fired him and he returned to Sweden, which devastated Garbo, and he died a broken man. THIS movie was made by Stiller, directed before his first movie with Garbo, and was released in America by William Fox the following year, which makes us think that Fox made the deal to distribute this movie in the hopes of getting Stiller and Garbo to sign with him, but of course, they signed with MGM, which worked out great for her but terrible for Stiller. There is very little information on the Internet about the U.S. release of this movie, and some of what is there is incorrect. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: fine. Note that this lobby card is in excellent condition and is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card! Learn More about condition grades
