An Original Vintage Movie Studio Portrait Portfolio (measures 9" x 12 3/4"; contains 18 9" x 12 5/8" deluxe portraits of MGM stars in a folder) (Learn More) MGM 1924-1934, the 1934 MGM portfolio containing great art portraits by Sergio Gargiulo of 18 of the stars from MGM movies between 1924 and 1934: Greta Garbo, Laurel and Hardy, Joan Howard, Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Jeanette MacDonald, Lionel Barrymore, Jackie Cooper, Myrna Loy. Wallace Beerym, Helen Hayes, John Gilbert, Marion Davies, Johnny Weissmuller, Louis Stone, Max Baer, and Ramon Novarro. The portraits are contained in a printed folder that MGM created specifically for them that has a cool deco cover and a printed inside which has MGM's name and a logo. On this particular portfolio (because it was sent to a Brazilian theater), there is a small "tipped-in" sheet on the inside cover which gives information about the portfolio in Portuguese, and there are also three loose 9" x 12 5/8" sheets which have information about all of the 18 stars printed on them in Portuguese, plus a cover sheet with an image of the MGM lion. MGM created these portfolios minus the identifying information, and then tipped in a sheet to the inside from cover and put the four loose sheets into each portfolio in the language of whatever country they were sending them to, so they could use this same portfolio for every country in the world (this particular portfolio was sent to Brazil). I have seen a few individual Gargiulo portraits from this set, but until this complete portfolio surfaced, I had no idea there were 18 different ones! In fact, a collector tells us that there may be 24 to 47 portraits in all, but we cannot confirm that at this time, nor are we certain they are all by Sergio Gargiulo. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Sergio Gargiulo Condition: very good to fine. A few of the portraits have the most minor of border imperfections, but they are generally in nice condition. The loose sheets have some faint brown water staining on them and the folder has some faint brown water staining around the edges and some small tears along the spine.
