An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Canvas Banner (measures 33" x 116") (Learn More) Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments, the classic 1923 Cecil B. DeMille silent religious Biblical epic ("The mightiest dramatic spectacle of all the ages"; "Story by Jeanie MacPherson") starring Theodore Roberts (as Moses), Rod La Rocque, Leatrice Joy, Nita Naldi, Charles De Roche (as Rameses), Estelle Taylor, Julia Faye, Terrence Moore, and Richard Dix. Note that in this, Cecil B. DeMille's first version of this movie, the movie is essentially split into two parts, one that is "modern" (set in 1923), and the other with the Biblical portion. Of course, DeMille remade the movie in 1959 with Charlton Heston in the lead role, and it was solely the Biblical portion that he used when he re-made the movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. When this poster was found, it had a huge number of creases and scuffs throughout, and the bottom border of the poster had been neatly trimmed off (approximately 3" out of the original 36"). The canvas was very thin and fragile and worn, and the person who found the poster had it professionally mounted on linen. You can still see that it had many defects, but they truly do not prevent the enjoyment of this great poster, and some people might like that the poster is distressed and shows that it is over 80 years old. For the same reason, the person who had the poster linenbacked left on the poster the name of the theater ("LYNN"), the play dates at the bottom center, and the admission prices (25 cents and 50 cents, which was quite a bit of money in 1923!), all of which have been neatly stenciled on to background areas of the poster. All of these also show the great history of this poster. The linenbacker did not re-create the missing bottom border. Very few first release posters are known to exist from this all-time classic movie, and this one has great images, but please do not bid on it unless you have carefully read the above, and can accept the defects it has had and the restoration it has had! This week we have given a more detailed overall condition grade along with more details about the condition described in words. Of course, we could not describe every single defect, plus there are some defects (like creasing, tape on the back, extremely tiny pinholes, etc) which can be VERY difficult to see, even in our largest "super-sized" image. Therefore we strongly recommend that you BOTH read our written description of the item, AND ALSO look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
