He was highly controversial, and was openly homosexual but also accused of being homophobic! Some of his films include: Querelle, Lili Marleen, and The Marriage of Maria Braun. He passed away in 1982 by suicide (cocaine drug overdose) at the age of 37. Important Added Info: Note that this is a publicity still that was taken by a professional photographer (Sylvia Plachy) and distributed to media outlets. The photographer put her name on the back so that he could be properly credited. Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good to very good. The still was used in a newspaper or magazine and there are printer notes written in the left and right blank borders. The still is lightly rippled across the top and bottom.
